Origami and Hospitals
Children in the hospital are usually not having much fun. They are going through tests and treatments that make them feel terrible. Keeping them busy helps the time go by faster and it makes them forget about what is going on in their lives.
Many physicians and therapists are incorporating origami into their therapy sessions. In addition to improving self-esteem, you can help break the ice, and help relax a child who is stressed from treatment.
Origami can help children in many different ways. Origami will keep their minds busy and hands active. Origami takes time and concentration which is something most children have while n the hospital, since they can?t go outside to play.
One thing you can do is create a packet that contains everything they will need to make a project. This packet will include the instructions, the paper, and anything else that may enhance the project. You can do beginner projects only or you can create a set of packets and they can work their way up to more advanced projects.
Once each project is finished, it can be displayed in their room, the hallway, or the waiting room. It will brighten spirits and it will help keep their mind off their situation.
If they decide to make many different projects, they can share them with other patients in the hospital.
