Money Origami

Have you ever received a gift of folded money? If you have then you have received origami money. Also known as “dollar bill origami”, this fun form of the craft is something that everyone can start out doing because it is pretty easy to do.

Instead of using traditional paper to make your origami creations money is used instead. Most people who practice this form of origami use it to give as gifts or to display. The United States has adapted this craft seemingly because of how low the denomination of money is, for example, the US dollar is the lowest paper denomination where as in Canada, there lowest denomination of paper money is worth $5.

Since the denomination is so low, many people feel like they can give their creations away, usually as a gift. Speaking of gifts, how cool would it be if someone who practiced the art of 1,000 wedding cranes (an origami wedding tradition where people make 1,000 cranes to show their love to the new couple) using money? This would be the most thoughtful and creative gift for the new couple.

You could also create money origami to give to children as gifts in the form of animals or boats and airplanes. Imagine the joy on their faces seeing that. One thing for sure, it will definitely give your old cash gift a little pizzazz.

You can find various designs online and in publications for creating money origami designs. Just be careful when practicing, you really can’t afford to tear this kind of paper. The best way to practice without the fear of tearing the money is to cut a standard piece of paper into the same dimensions as a bill and practice with that until you are good enough for the real thing.
